1981 "Bandit" Edition Trans Am from Trans Am Specialties
Car #24
Now I know not too many people out there have heard of Trans Am Specialties. Yes, we are Trans Am Specialties, but I mean the Original Trans Am Specialties from Cherry Hill New Jersey. Trans Am Specialties was a company back in the late 70's and early 80's that specialized in creating the Ultimate Trans Am. They took the Pontiac Trans Am and made it into one of the top performing muscle cars of that era and still today will hold it's own to today's sports cars.
Please check out this page for more information about Trans Am Specialties
and what they created: Trans Am Specialties.
Here we have car #24 produced by Trans Am Specialties. It has been family owned since new and has all of the accompanying paperwork including the original invoice and certificate of authenticity from Universal Studios. This car was special ordered by the original owner and has been maintained in its original condition. There is another set of wheel on the car right now, but the original Turbo rims do come with the car. The car currently has 12,908 original miles on it and is in excellent shape. As you can see from the photos below, the exterior of the car still has the original starlight black paint scheme that adorned the "Bandit" Edition Trans Am. The solid black paint gives the car a meanacing look and is highlighted with the Bandit insignia on the fenders and the trunk spoiler with the cars production number of #24. The exterior of the car is in excellent shape considering it is now 24 years old. There are a few minor blemishes here and there on the exterior but they are hard to notice. This car will definitely turn heads of any passer-by as you roll, or shall I say, rumble down the street.
If you read the article listed above, you will have a little insight as to what this car has under the hood. This Trans Am has a mid 70's Pontiac 455 that has been bored .30 over to a displacement of 462 cubic inches. It also has forged aluminum pistons, mild hydraulic cam and lifters, aluminum intake, and puts out a health 9.0 to 1 compression which is still very runable on street gas. It also incorporates a high volume oil pump, tubular headers, and for all of those EPA conscious drivers, it does have all of the legal emissions equipment as well. This car will pull 0 to 60 in 6 seconds, do the standing 1/4 mile in 14.3 seconds, and has an estimated top speed of 145mph. This Trans Am is also equipped with the close ratio Doug Nash 5-speed transmission which makes it not only great from stoplight to stoplight, but will also give you that nice cruising speed on the highways. Not only do you have the Monstrous 455 under the hood and the 5-speed transmission, but this car also came highly optioned from the factory. It included the WS6 handling package with the 4-wheel disc brakes, 15x8 inch turbo rims, high-rate springs and larger sway bars. With this kind of performance out of the engine, you need these options to take full advantage of the handling of this car. There were also other features to this car that helped in the performance including cooling modifications to help keep the engine cool and also more suspension and tire upgrades and a "Anti-Rattle" program.
Not only were these Trans Ams loaded performance wise, it also has all of the creature comforts on the inside including power windows, power locks, air conditioning, tilt wheel, intermittent wipers, deluxe lamp group, and even rear defogger. The car has the deluxe custom cloth interior with the custom embroidered floor mats that have the "Bandit" insignia on them. The interior of this car is in excellent shape and has no rips or tears, no cracks in the dash, and no burn holes in the console. All of the options such as the power windows and locks work and function like they did back in 1981. The gauges (which buy the way, this car also has the custom 170mph speedometer and 6k tach with the "Trans Am Specialties" name on it) are all functioning as they should. This car also comes with the original spare tire and jack located in the trunk with the original t-tops bags. And for all of you who are wondering.... Yes, this car is a True Special Edition car originally from the factory as well.
This car is truly a time capsule for that serious collector. I do not know how many are actually left out there, but in six years I have only seen three of these cars and one of them was totally disassembled and barley had any of the original equipment or options left to it. This is an extremely rare car and will only go up in value and will be an incredible piece to any collection. In 1981, this car was purchased for just under $27,000 and we are accepting serious offers only on this car. email me with any quesions of offers to: brett@taspecialties.com
