We are proud to present this 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Special Edition, code Y84 Special Edition Package.

Special Editions where produced in a limited number. Only 1,107 (less then 10% of all the Trans Ams produced) were Special Edition, which puts them in a very desirable category, specially the ones with the tan interior. This TA here is all matching numbers with the factory matching 400 engine and 4 speed transmission. This car comes with the PHS Documentation.

The looks of this car in 1979 marked an era, car and driver magazine was right when they wrote down "It will not pass this way again".

The change on the front fascia after 1978 was more than a re-style, was also performance, it think that the looks is unique, it is known that the new shape along with the front lower spoiler helped to keep this car cooler than previous models. This car looks like a jet , other cars on the road can't compare with the presence of a 1979 Trans Am Special Edition. It emits pure power and muscle.

Exterior

The car is all rust free, straight and in excellent. The car was repainted about 8 years ago and it still shines but is not perfect. All the decals are correct, also the gold pinstripes are in good shape. There is one ding in the passengers door, but there is no other major things wrong with the exterior except for a few scratches. Front gold grilles are not broken or cracked. All glass around is in great condition as well as all of the moldings and weatherstripping. Keep in mind that is an old car, and of course have imperfections, but I can assure that looks great the way it sits right now, but hey all old cars have small imperfections to them, This car is meant to be driven and enjoyed and not a trailer queen.

Interior

Interior is there and complete but does need work done to it.. The gold wheel is in excellent shape, and the gold swirled dash has faded, but if you take off the rings, you can see the gold there. All the gauges work perfect, except for the clock. All interior plastic and trim is there and intact, but does need to either be re-dyed or replaced. Rear tray package is faded, but they do have the original speaker grilles. This car does not have the original radio, but has a nice CD changer in the dash with an alarm system, but I can get an original radio, so it will be up to you if you want me to get it. The A/C has been removed by the previous owner to allow the full power of the engine to be set free. The trunk is in great shape, but does need a new trunk mat, it has the original mat, a spare tire, original T-top bags, and its rust free.

Engine

As said, is the original matching numbers engine (PWH) is there and intact and has been rebuilt. It is very powerful when you step on it, there are no knocks, no rattles, no leaks no smoke, and it is putting alot of horsepower to the ground. When you take off in this car you know why the call it a Muscle Car. The engine has been professionally built and this is what the Pontiac 400 is meant to do. The 4 -speed transmissions shifts with ease and has no problems. This compliments the powerful engine perfectly. This car is a W72, M21, WS6, CC1, Y84 ..... hell, what more could you ask for. When you open the hood its absolutely clean, its evident that was extremely babied and taken care of. The engine compartment is in great shape.

Rims and tires

Car came with the famous wide 15 x 8 snowflake rims with the WS6 handling package. The rims need to be refinished, but are in pretty good shape as is and can be cleaned up. The car does have the aftermarket centercaps on them and they are new. It has almost 90% new BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires. The handling of this car is impressive, and the looks of muscle car is just breathtaking with the WS6.

Miscellaneous

Taillights are perfect , no cracks, but there is a crack in the gas door. Car has new dual exhaust and is not loud and obnoxious, and the original dual chromed tail pipes. Even though the car is relatively quite.... it has the power. This is what we like to call one of those "Sleeper" cars. Sounds quiet and calm, but it really lets loose when you accelerate and release the power of the engine. All the electric works perfect like headlights, marker lights, brake lights, etc... all in working order. The power windows go up and down smoothly, but the power locks door need to be greased. When you hit the power lock button in the car or even with the remote (yes, it does have an alarm system with it). T tops have very light surface scratches which is normal, and it could be easily buffed with glass polish; and as you know all of them leak a little if you point at them with the hose it is normal and it happens with 99% of all TA's second generation, but , hey didn't you planned to drive it with the T tops off ?

In a nutshell you will get one of only 1,107 1979 Special Editions produced, this cars will be worth a fortune soon, remember that is a true Y84, W72, M21, WS6 Trans Am, just take a look at the PHS Documentation. This car does need some cosmetic work, but is a solid true 1979 Special Edition Trans Am. You could drive the cart as is, or with about $2,000 worth or work on the interior, you will have a very nice car to show off to your friends. If you purchase this car, I can give you an estimate for the amount of work that needs to be done to the car to make it a show car. We just sold another 1979 Special Edition Trans Am like this with the black interior that was in showroom condition for $26,500. This car does need some work, but is priced accordingly.
