1978 Trans Am
142,000 Miles
Sold
![]() Here is a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am with 42,000 miles showing on the odometer, but the actual mileage is more likely 142,000 miles. The car is in great shape. The car is equipped with the L78 Pontiac 400 and turbo 350 transmission. The Pontiac 400 runs great and has an Edelbrock intake and carb. The car is quick responsive and runs really strong. It doesn't burn or leak any oils or smoke at all. Although this car is not a show winner, it is definately an excellent driver. The car brakes as quickly as it accelerates. It also has a shift kit installed which makes the shifting a bit quicker and harder than most transmission, but with this shift kit this car will chirp the tires going into second gear. Now here is a break down of the car.
Exterior:
The exterior of was repainted about 6 years ago and the paint is still holding up great. All of the decals are in good shape with no signs of bubbling or peeling. There are some minor scratches in the paint due to being 6 years old, but still looks great. All of the lines of the car line up nicely with no out-of-wack seams. The car does have some of the Special Edition striping to it, but it is not complete. This will turn the heads as you are driving by, but probably won't win you any trophies in the car shows.
Interior:
The interior has alot of new parts installed in it. There has been new seats installed, new headliner with sun-visors, new sill plates, and new carpeting. So, most of the interior is new. The door panels are in good shape as well as the center console. The dash is cracked, but can be repaired or replaced. The seat backs and rear arm rests are in Ok condition with a few scratches here and there. The rear deck is ok and doesn't need to be replaced. So, the interior of the car is in pretty good shape except for the crack in the dash.
Engine and Undercarriage:
This Trans Am is equipped with the L78 Pontiac 400. It was rated at 185hp and 325ftlbs of torque. Now of course those were ratings given to the EPA so we all know this engine kicks out more than that. The car also has an Edlebrock performer intake and carb installed which adds greatly to the horsepower of this car. The acceleration is quick and responsive and lauches you off the lines with ease. The car has had the air conditioning removed, but there is a new AC compressor that comes with the car. All of the other AC lines are still there. As you can see from the photos below, you will see that there is no signs of rust.
Options:
This Trans Am comes loaded with most of the goodies including WS6 Handling package, Power Windows, Tilt Wheel, Air Conditioning, Fisher T-tops, and rear defoger. It does have an aftermarket radio installed. Overall this car is not a show car, but is an excellent driver and would turn the heads of passer-by's. The car runs solid and doesn't have any mechanical probles with the engine, transmission, brakes, etc, just a few cosmetics and this car would be better than a driver car. The car also has the space saver tire, jack and original Fisher T-top bags in the trunk.
